Research Fellow (Infrasound Array)

Young and research-intensive, Nanyang Technological University (NTU Singapore) is ranked 13th globally. It is also placed 1st amongst the world’s best young universities. The Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS) at NTU is a national science Research Centre of Excellence. Its mission is to conduct fundamental research on earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunami and climate change in and around Southeast Asia, toward safer and more sustainable societies. We invite applications for a Research Fellow in Volcanology to develop infrasound monitoring and will be jointly appointed between the Earth Observatory Volcano Group and the Applied Projects Group. The research project "Infrasound" aims at improving early warning of injection of volcanic ash into the atmosphere.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Assess infrasound network detection capability
Run and develop atmospheric wave propagation models and associated uncertainties
Optimization of regional and local infrasound network design and location
Link remote infrasound signals to eruptive source parameters
Combination of infrasound with other remote sensing techniques
Explore and developed the applied aspect of the project (Early Warning of major eruption including atmospheric models)
Optimization from data acquisition to alert issuance
Participate in station operation and maintenance for Infrasound arrays linked to the project
Conduct his/her own research while working effectively with local and international collaborators
Publish scientific outcomes in peer-reviewed scientific journals

Requirements:

Ph.D. in Geophysics
Solid mathematical and geophysical background
Experience in infrasound and modeling
Fluent in Matlab / Python or other programing languages
Research interests complementary to the aims of the Infrasound project
