Research Fellow (Analogue Modelling)

Young and research-intensive, Nanyang Technological University (NTU Singapore) is ranked 11th globally. It is also placed 1st amongst the world’s best young universities. The Earth Observatory in Singapore (EOS) at NTU Singapore is a national science Research Center of Excellence. Its mission is to conduct fundamental research on earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunami and climate change in and around Southeast Asia, toward safer and more sustainable societies.

The Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS) invite applications for a Research Fellow to investigate volcanic processes combining monitoring and experimental approaches. This will involve the quantitative analysis of analogue experiments design to understand conduit processes. This work will be taking place in an already existing experimental facility. The successful candidate will work in a vibrant scientific department with state-of-the-art labs and a team of international scientists. Candidates with prior experience in analogue experiments on volcanic processes and acquisition of field data are desired.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Characterize, through analogue modelling, volcanic conduit dynamic and associated monitoring signature
  • In parallel the candidate will conduct, if/when possible, field measurement of degassing at active volcanoes
  • Expected to publish the scientific outcomes of this research in high quality, peer-reviewed, international scientific journals
  • He or she will have the opportunity to participate in the various volcanology-related education and outreach activities of the Earth Observatory of Singapore and the Asian School of the Environment

Requirements:

  • PhD degree in volcanology
  • Prior experience in analogue modelling. First-hand experience of field measurement is an advantage
  • Mastering of a programming language would be valued (e.g. Python, Matlab…)
  • Self-driven, highly motivated, with interest to work with other researchers and scientists (team player) to produce high-quality research

We regret that only successful candidates will be informed.

Interested applicants should submit a cover letter, CV, list of publications, and statement of research interests. Applications will be reviewed from 15 March 2023. We regret to inform that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.

Please submit an official application here.
