Research Assistant / Associate - Computer Scientist

Young and research-intensive, Nanyang Technological University (NTU Singapore) is ranked 13th globally. It is also placed 1st amongst the world’s best young universities. The Earth Observatory in Singapore (EOS) at NTU Singapore is a national science Research Center of Excellence. Its mission is to conduct fundamental research on earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunami and climate change in and around Southeast Asia, toward safer and more sustainable societies.

We seek a qualified research associate/assistant to work with the Volcano Group at EOS in developing WOVOdat project. WOVOdat project is a global database on volcanic unrest aims to understand pre-eruptive processes and improving eruption forecasts (www.wovodat.org). He/She will work closely with WOVOdat team members as well as take part in visits and assists regional partners (volcano observatories). He/she expected to present their research at workshops and international conferences.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

Interrogation of datasets from international catalogs, literatures, and volcano observatory.
Create scripts for data conversion and upload into database, also developing data analytics tools (statistics and Artificial Intelligence).
Understand and familiar with programming and scripting in: Python, Java, PhP, Javascript, MySQL database, jQuery.
Working with and assisting partners in developing WOVOdat platform (MySQL database and tools)
Visualization and Analysis of volcano monitoring data (spatial and temporal datasets)

Requirements: 

Bachelor / Master degree in Computer Sciences or related fields.
Relevant skills and experiences in computer programming/scripting (Python, Java, PhP, Javascript, MySQL database, jQuery)
Ideally have experience in and familiar with handling volcano monitoring data (spatial and temporal datasets)
Ability to perform statistical analysis and Artificial Intelligence.
Self-driven, able to work independently but also a good team player.
Good written and oral communication skills.
Willing to travel occasionally to other countries, as well as interact with a variety of cultures
