Research Fellow (Analogue Modelling)

Young and research-intensive, Nanyang Technological University (NTU Singapore) is ranked 11th globally. It is also placed 1st amongst the world’s best young universities. The Earth Observatory in Singapore (EOS) at NTU Singapore is a national science Research Center of Excellence. Its mission is to conduct fundamental research on earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunami and climate change in and around Southeast Asia, toward safer and more sustainable societies.

We invite application for a Research Fellow to investigate volcanic processes combining monitoring and experimental approaches. This will involve the quantitative analysis of analogue experiments design to understand conduit processes.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Characterize, through analogue modelling, volcanic conduit dynamic and associated monitoring signature.
Conduct, if/when possible, field measurement of degassing at active volcanoes.
Expected to publish the scientific outcomes of this research in high quality, peer-reviewed, international scientific journals.
Will have the opportunity to participate in the various volcanology-related education and outreach activities of the Earth Observatory of Singapore and the Asian School of the Environment

PhD degree in volcanology
Prior experience in analogue modelling. First-hand experience of field measurement is an advantage
Mastering of a programming language would be valued (e.g. Python, Matlab…)
Self-driven, highly motivated, with interest to work with other researchers and scientists (team player) to produce high-quality research
