Research Fellow (Modelling Urban Biodiversity)

A Research Fellow position is currently available in the Asian School of the Environment (ASE). We seek candidates who will thrive in an interdisciplinary environment and have a genuine interest in working on the topic of urban biodiversity in Asia-Pacific. The research programme on resilient and inclusive cities at the ASE addresses important challenges related to rapid urbanisation and climate change in Asia-Pacific. The programme builds upon an interdisciplinary approach, combining geospatial modelling of urban environments and empirical studies of urban practice. The goal of this research project is to contribute to the modelling toolbox for researchers and practitioners by translating the latest advances in urban biodiversity science into a prototype decision-aid tool. The position provides opportunities for the candidate to explore new research areas and pursue their own interests within the scope of the Resilient and Liveable Cities research program, while expanding their professional network in Singapore and internationally.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

Coordinate a working group on urban biodiversity modelling
Develop a prototype tool to estimate the impact of land use change on urban biodiversity
Apply the tool to one or several case study(ies) in Asia Pacific
Communicate finding through conferences and scientific papers

Requirements: 

PhD in a field related to urban ecology, environmental management, or related fields
Experience developing geospatial or ecological models (or extensive experience applying such models)
Creativity, enthusiasm, and positive attitude
Excellent project management skills, organization, and attention to detail
Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communications skills
Coding experience (or willingness to engage with a software engineer to implement the model prototype)
