YUEN Kai Wan

Kai Wan's research addresses the effects of human interactions on physical and ecological systems. In particular, she is interested in the effects of land use/land cover change in the tropics. Previously, at the Coupled Human and Natural Systems Lab (CHNS-Lab) in the Asian School of the Environment, Kai Wan assessed the impacts of tropical cyclones on rice agriculture in Asia. Separately, she used a systems-thinking approach to represent the ways in which anthropogenic land use and natural hazards have affected rice production in the two mega-deltas of Vietnam. In addition, she was also involved in a project assessing the impacts of dams in Indonesia. Kai Wan is currently studying the spatial extent of sand mining in the Mekong Delta.
