Volcanic ash as a hazard to aviation in Southeast Asia

We use volcano morphology, observed in satellite remote sensing, coupled with eruption data taken from historical and geologic records, to infer eruption frequency at ~350 active or potentially active volcanoes in Southeast asia (red triangles).

From that, we use statistical arguments to derive future eruption probabilities for the region and model ash dispersion to infer the potential for volcanic ash interfering with air traffic in and out of Singapore.
