A protocol for a geological sea-level database

Publication type

Book Chapter

Abstract

This chapter presents a protocol for synthesizing sea-level data by means of a comprehensive database. A rigorous, objective error assessment assures that all conceivable sources of uncertainty are accounted for, thereby allowing direct comparison of data from different regions and environments. New developments in the methodology presented here include a more extensive treatment of age errors, plus modeling of modern as well as paleotidal parameters. The methodology is illustrated with an example from the US Gulf Coast.
