Aftermath of 2017 Typhoon Hato

In August 2017, Typhoon Hato generated widespread storm surge flooding in the coastal cities of Macau and Zhuhai, resulting in billions of dollars in economic loss. The Macau Peninsula remains vulnerable to flooding due to its low elevation of 0-2m above mean sea level. A team consisting of members from EOS, NUS and Tsinghua University investigated the impact of Typhoon Hato to understand the effect of flooding in the area.
