Engagement and Impact Specialist

The Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS) is a University Research Institute at Nanyang Technological University Singapore that conducts fundamental research on earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, and climate change in and around Southeast Asia, towards safer and more sustainable societies. Critical to achieving this mission is the ability to translate and communicate science for the benefit of community stakeholders. This requires a Community Engagement (CE) office that has the capacity to produce and disseminate research and information in a professional, timely, and effective manner, and who can work seamlessly with different research teams, departments at NTU, and a range of external stakeholders so they can benefit from the research.  

The ideal candidate will have excellent public relations acumen, management experience, media exposure, writing skills, and experience working with multi-functional teams. The candidate must be self-motivated, resourceful, have strong communication and organizational skills for handling time-sensitive outreach, be able to juggle multiple tasks, be a team player, and be service-oriented.  

EOS is looking for ambitious, highly motivated Engagement and Impact Specialist. The Engagement and Impact Specialist will work with the Community Engagement (CE) office of the Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS). The incumbent will assist the Assistant Director of the CE office with managing specific outreach and engagement activities, and with managing and reporting about outreach and EOS-wide data and metrics. This role will contribute to the success of the EOS engagement initiatives to promote a safer and more sustainable future and will contribute to reporting and promoting the performance of the institute.

Key Responsibilities:   

  • Manage specific engagement and outreach projects, such as, targeted outreach initiatives and educational activities.

  • Manage specific databases and report data accordingly.

  • Manage other specific CE databases, such as equipment and corporate gifts databases.

  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, when appropriate.

  • Manage corporate designs.

  • Manage the production of EOS collaterals and documents, including brochures and slide decks, while maintaining a high-quality design and brand identity.

  • Manage the production of corporate gifts: propose ideas, source vendors, manage production and allocated budget.

Job Requirements:  

  • Degree in business administration, data management, communications, education or related field.

  • Candidates with a degree in Environmental studies and strong experience in community engagement will also be considered.

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience with project management and/or implementing outreach activities.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Basic knowledge of or strong interest in Earth Sciences and Climate change.

  • Proficient with the Adobe Suite, Microsoft Office, and working knowledge of database systems.

  • Strong project management and organisational skills.

  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.

  • Ability to work in a team as well as independently. Ability to analyse project requirements and provide appropriate proposals to meet project needs.

  • Ability to negotiate with vendors and outside consultants, as needed.

  • Ability to adapt communication styles depending on the project and stakeholder.

  • Ability to manage multiple agendas and projects at the same time and in a graceful manner.

  • Experience working with various stakeholders and community groups will be a bonus.
