Research Fellow (Communication/ Psychology/ Sociology/ Social Science)

As part of the Climate Transformation Programme (CTP), the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and the Earth Observatory of Singapore are looking for a Research Fellow to make an important contribution to the research project: “Climate Transformation Programme: Cross Cutting Theme 1 – Sustainable Societies” funded by the MOE Tier 3C Grant. CTP aims to develop, inspire, and accelerate knowledge-based solutions and educate future leaders to establish the stable climate and environment necessary for resilient, just, and sustainable Southeast Asian societies.

CTP will generate knowledge and innovation across disciplines including climate and Earth science, ecology, materials science, artificial intelligence, humanities, social sciences and the arts, finance, health, and engineering. It will also translate state-of-the-art scientific results into real world solutions for Singapore, and it will transfer these solutions to Southeast Asia (SEA) and beyond.

As part of this programme, “Cross-cutting theme 1: Sustainable Societies”, this theme will leverage climate research in communication, public opinion and psychology, and artistic impressions to shape public attitudes and behaviours towards climate change issues. The Research Fellow will work directly with the PI of the Sustainable Societies theme, Professor Shirley Ho, based in the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information at NTU.


Key Responsibilities:   

  • Engage in conducting literature searches and manuscript preparation.

  • Develop and implement a five-wave survey with the public.

  • Conduct statistical analyses with survey data.

  • Contribute to research publications and presentations.

  • Write progress report and final research report.

  • Engage in the dissemination of the results of the research with the support of and under the supervision of the Principal Investigator.

  • Carry out administrative work associated with the program of research as necessary.

Job Requirements:   

  • PhD degree in communication, psychology, sociology, or a social science related discipline.

  • Strong foundation in survey research and analytical skills (e.g., SPSS, MPLUS, or R).

  • Team player in a project setting, also with ability to work independently in a multi-cultural team environment.

  • Must demonstrate initiative and good interpersonal communication skills.

  • Prior experience in survey research.

  • Internationally recognized research track record as evidenced by journal publications and conference presentations.
