Project Officer (NSLP)

The Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS) at Nanyang technological University in Singapore invites applications for the position of Project Officer to support a new National Sea Level Programme (NSLP) project. We are looking for someone with a passion for making Singapore and Southeast Asia a safer and more sustainable place in the face of climate change, sea-level rise, and their associate hazards, through supporting and communicating critical research on sea-level science.

The ideal candidate will have experience in communications and/or public policy, and project management. They will be part of the EOS Geodesy Group, who are leading this project, and will also work closely with the new EOS Remote Sensing Lab (EOS-RS) and the EOS Community Engagement Office.


Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Communicate project results to relevant stakeholders, including government agencies and the general public, including internal reports, social media, and other external communications
  • Assist with activity planning, progress tracking, data management, collaboration schedule, and organization of research visits
  • Participate in and contribute to project research and management meetings
  • Participate in various public engagement activities, working closely with the EOS Community Engagement Office
  • Provide research support as needed, such as background literature review


  • BSc degree in Earth Sciences, Geography, Environmental Studies, Communications, Public Policy, Civil or Environmental Engineering or other related field
  • Familiar with and interested in human-environmental systems, public policy, non-governmental or humanitarian work
  • Keen interest to learn more about Earth and environmental science, sea-level rise, climate change, and remote sensing
  • Very well organized with experience in project management and communication
  • Excellent written and verbal English communications skills, with proof that they are able to write clear, jargon-free and accurate reports about scientific content
  • Self-driven, highly motivated, collaborative, with interest to work with other researchers and scientists (team player) to produce high-quality and impactful research
  • Ideal candidates will have experience working with Singapore government agencies and/or in public engagement
  • Evidence of being able to work both independently and collaboratively, with a strong team spirit
  • Good communication and writing skills in English required as it is the main medium of communication, which includes but not limited to liaising with and reporting to overseas collaborators, different stakeholders, government agencies and general public

Due to the current health crisis related to COVID-19 and the escalating visa/travel restrictions in place, we're currently unable to extend offers to anyone who cannot work from Singapore due to lockdown visa/travel restrictions, or other restrictive measures until further notice. Consequently, we will be prioritizing candidates who can start in this location by set date as expected. We're keeping the situation under review and would adjust our position should the restrictive measures be removed later on
