Profile

Woo Kien Young (KY) is Corporate Services Director at the Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS), Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He has held this appointment since 2010.

Before joining EOS, KY was Deputy Director of the Infocomm Media Development Authority’s (IMDA) Wireless and Platforms Division. Prior to that, he held various business unit leadership positions over nine years in NTT Communications. He began his career in the Republic of Singapore Navy, where he served for 12 years. He holds a Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours) from the National University of Singapore and also obtained a Diploma in Business Administration from the University of Surrey. 

KY is a professional and corporate member of relevant professional associations namely, the Singapore Human Resources Institute and the Singapore Computer Society.  

Throughout his career, KY has received numerous awards in recognition of achievements and career milestones including the Nanyang Technological University Long Service Award (2018) for a decade of good service to the University. He was awarded the Infocomm Media Development Authority Special Commendation Award (2009) for the successful planning and establishment of the new Singapore Internet Exchange. At NTT, he was awarded the NTT Singapore Long Service Certificate (2006) and the NTT Communications Global Business Award – Global Business Best Value Prize (2007).

KY was actively involved in a number of national-level projects and programmes. He and his team provided the first technical solution for the secured trust mark, the trustsg logo, which was implemented between 2001 and 2004.The trustsg secured logo was a project for the National Trust Mark Programme, overseen by the Singapore National Trust Council.

Over the years, he was involved in government-funded projects at IMDA. He managed the nationwide free wireless programme, Wireless@SG, from 2008 to 2010, successfully extending it until 2013. He and his team planned and established the new neutral Singapore Internet Exchange, which was successfully incorporated in 2009. KY and his team also developed the Data Centre Parks (DCP) programme, which was eventually launched in 2011 with its designated site at Tanjung Kling Road.
