What should we do when we see signs of a tsunami?

When you are close to the sea and you feel an earthquake, the best thing to do is to swiftly make your way to higher ground immediately.

Tsunamis can also hit places located very far from their source, where no earthquake has been felt at all. The best way to mitigate such risks is for the government to implement tsunami-warning systems that can provide real time information on the occurrence of a tsunami. Such warning systems have been created in the Pacific Ocean after the 1946 Aleutian tsunami, and in the Indian Ocean after the 2004 tsunami.
