Sleeping Financial Giants? Linking Climate Tipping Points & Finance
About the Event:
Financial actors and capital play a key role in extractive economic activities around the world, as well as in current efforts to avoid dangerous climate change. In this talk, I combine insights from complexity thinking, to elaborate the coupling between non-linear changes in the Earth's climate system with financial flows and actors at a global scale. By combining multiple sources of financial, company and commodity flows data, I elaborate the poorly understood influence of a small set of international financial actors on climate stability, and the possibilities for a new generation of sustainable financial innovation that integrates insights from resilience thinking and the Earth system sciences.
