In August 2025, EOS welcomed some of the brightest young minds from Singapore for the Grand Finals of the National STEM Championship 2025. Four teams of four students from Catholic High School, NUS High School of Math and Science, Anglo-Chinese School (Independent), and Saint Joseph’s Institution competed to provide innovative and appropriate coastal protection and adaptation strategies to promote the resilience and wellbeing of populations living in Southeast Asia.
Organised by Science Centre Singapore, the National STEM Championship is a yearly competition that connects Singapore’s research, innovation, and enterprise landscape with core elements of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Targeting Secondary Three (and the equivalent) students, the Championship aims to strengthen their knowledge through hands-on STEM activities held at various locations across Singapore. EOS was proud to be asked to be the Grand Finals Partner of the 2025 edition of the Championship.

Beyond serving as a venue host for the Grand Finals, EOS conducted an industry tour, curated a challenge for participants and served on the judging panel. This engagement offered students valuable insights into EOS’ expertise and real-world industry practices.
Using the information shared during the industry tour and in a booklet provided, finalists were tasked with creating models depicting appropriate coastal protection strategies that also promote the wellbeing of the populations for two coastal areas – Singapore and Manila (the Philippines) - that experience a range of natural hazards in addition to the threat of climate change.

Each team was provided with various craft materials such as modelling clay, wooden sticks and fabric. The finalists had 75 minutes to complete their models and 5 minutes to present their work to the panel of judges.

EOS designed the challenge to educate participants about the complexity of climate change and its impacts and the need for localised protection and adaptation strategies, and to encourage participants to combine technical knowledge with creativity, problem-solving and teamwork, highlighting the interdisciplinary nature of STEM and the tangible impact of practical solutions.

EOS has been a partner of Science Centre Singapore on several initiatives, including the co-creation of the Earth Alive exhibition, and was proud to partner once again with SCS to promote science and critical thinking among Singapore youth. Through initiatives like the National STEM Championship, EOS continues to foster curiosity, critical thinking, and collaboration among students, equipping the next generation to tackle the challenges of tomorrow.
