Profile
Prof. Steve H.L. Yim is the tenured associate professor and assistant chair (faculty) of Asian School of the Environment, and the tenured associate professor of Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. Prof. Yim is the international leading scientist of air pollution and health, especially transboundary air pollution. His work has published over 100 journal papers in international high-ranking journals. His research innovation is globally recognized. He is listed as the world’s top 2% scientist (by single year impact) published by Stanford University for three consecutive years.
His research team developed the first-of-its-kind of 3-Dimensional Real-Time Atmospheric Monitoring System (3DREAMS) in East Asia (Hong Kong) for monitoring transboundary air pollution in the Pearl River Delta region, and they are currently developing 3DREAMS@SG in Singapore, filling the critical research gaps of transboundary air pollution in Southeast Asia. Prof. Yim is the co-lead principal investigator of the Climate Transformation Programme (CTP), which aims to develop, inspire and accelerate knowledge-based solutions and educate future leaders to establish the stable climate and environment necessary for resilient, just, and sustainable Southeast Asian societies. He also serves as the lead of the climate and health cluster in the project.
Prof. Yim is currently appointed as a member of the Global Air Pollution and Health – Technical Advisory Group (GAPH-TAG) of the World Health Organization (WHO), supporting the WHO with reviewing and analyzing the existing health impact assessment, interventions and policies to mitigate the health burdens of air pollution, and to provide technical guidance to support the relevant work in WHO. Prof. Yim worked closely with Hong Kong and Singapore governments, providing professional advice to support the government air quality management. Prof. Yim is frequently interviewed by mass media to offer his view on air quality and climate events.
