From 7 to 21 April 2025, 29 teams of students from 10 Singapore secondary schools competed in the
Earth Alive Inter-School Challenge 2025. Organised by the Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS) and Science Centre Singapore (SCS), and in support of the GoGreenSG initiative of the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment, the Challenge was the third iteration of the geography-themed competition.
114 secondary school students took part in the Challenge, which comprised of three missions aimed at encouraging the students to think about solutions to become more resilient against natural hazards in a changing climate.

For the first mission, the students, in teams of three or four, produced an original 90-second video about how they and others around the world have been or could be impacted by earthquakes. The teams had to include content from a webinar that took place on 7 April, during which EOS Research Fellow Sharadha Sathiakumar reminded key facts about earthquakes, and presented a study about
how modifications of the landscape can make secondary hazards from earthquakes worse. The team from Swiss Cottage Secondary School claimed the Best Video Award, and the winning video can be viewed below.
The second and third missions happened at SCS on 21 April. During the second mission of the Challenge, the teams had to use content from the
Earth Alive exhibition to answer a series of questions leading them to propose a coastal protection strategy for an earthquake-prone area.

The third mission comprised station games from the
EOS Dynamic Earth Games series. Each team played four games, and role played different scenarios from the perspective of community members living in disaster-prone regions. They tested their decision making skills in times of uncertainty – a common occurrence during disasters.

The team from Swiss Cottage Secondary School emerged as the Overall Winner of the Earth Alive Inter-School Challenge 2025. The team from Anglican High School came in Second, and three teams tied for Third place: one team from Swiss Cottage Secondary School and two teams from NUS High School of Mathematics & Science. The winning teams received a 3D-printed trophy, presented by Dr Sharadha Sathiakumar and Dr Lauriane Chardot from EOS, and by Mr Daniel Tan, Senior Director of Exhibitions at SCS.
